It was built in the Renaissance style and rebuilt in 1769 in the then modern Baroque style. These renovations were carried out by the then owner, a cloth merchant. Today it is the only originally restored and furnished town house from this period
in the south of Schleswig-Holstein.
Concerts of various musical styles, such as jazz or chamber music, are regularly held in the Old Merchant's House.
