From the open landfill of rubble, household waste and industrial waste to the energy mountain. The story is long. The landfill was closed in 1979 and, when toxic dioxins escaped in 1983, it was thoroughly rehabilitated.
Today, the 40 m high hill of rubbish is the Georgswerder energy mountain, with its wind turbine, photovoltaic system and the delivery of landfill gases to the Aurubis copper smelter. A brilliant vantage point over the city.
Open from April 1st to October 31st from 10am to 6pm. Closed on Monday.
You can only enter the energy mountain on foot. Bicycles must be parked at the information building.

Unbelievable what was created there! The way over the mountain is wonderful, the sheep enjoy their existence in the meadow below, there are many butterflies and great plants.
