The Haarmannsbrunnen is a memorial for miners in Osnabrück (Lower Saxony).
The fountain from 1909 is one of the oldest workers' monuments in Germany. It bears the name of its founder, the steelworks director and senator August Haarmann. When the monument is in operation, the water that flows out pours over the bronze figure and flows into the fountain built in front of it.(Source: Wikipedia)

Many Osnabrück residents think, also because they learned it that way at school, for example, that the memorial commemorates the mining accident in 1893 in the Piesberg coal mine. At that time, 9 miners died in a flood. According to the official account, the figure represents a worker who, through his hands, harvests the fountain of water as a reward. The discussion of what is ultimately true should continue.
