There is a beautifully delineated section with two water features and behind it a more natural park on the left. The park belonged to the Saint Martin's Abbey of a Benedictine order from the 11th century.

In front of the town hall is a statue of Louis Gallait, a painter born in Tournai in 1810. The man has his own room with his work in the Museum of Fine Arts in Tournai. He mainly painted heroic scenes on large canvases. The statue was made by Gillaume Charlier, the pedestal was designed by Victor Horta. You see three reliefs.

Behind the three left arches is a tree that was planted when the original abbey palace (and now town hall) was built in 1763. It is a ginkgo biloba. It is now more than 250 years old.
