Today's Bayer AG was founded in Heckinghausen on August 1, 1863. To celebrate this moment, Bayer AG donated a sculpture by the Wuppertal-based sculptor Tony Cragg, dedicated to Gerhard Domagk, to the city of Wuppertal on its 150th birthday. On August 1, 2013, the sculpture was inaugurated in front of the zoo, opposite the scientist's former home.
