The old town hall of Gelnhausen is a beautiful old half-timbered building that, like so many houses in Gelnhausen, was built with the cheaper building material wood after the destruction of the former buildings in the Thirty Years' War.

The old town hall, located very close to the Kaiserpfalz, served the city of Gelnhausen as the town hall until the end of the 19th century. With the small rooms and low ceilings that are common for specialist buildings from the old days, it is hard to imagine a town hall being used today.
