The High Gate is the starting point for exploring Gdansk's magnificent mile. The Renaissance building was built in its current representative form in 1588 by the Flemish architect Wilhelm van den Block.
The High Gate served as the city's main gate. It is decorated with allegorical figures from 1648, created by Peter Ringering and bearing the inscription "Peace, Freedom, Unity". Above the arches, the coats of arms of Gdansk, Poland and Prussia decorate the gate.
The Royal Route began with the High Gate, which leads directly to the Golden Gate (Złota Brama), which was built by Abraham van den Block in 1612 - 1614. "May those who love you prosper. May there be peace within your walls and happiness in your palaces" is the inscription. schwarzaufweiss.de/polen/danzig-reisefuehrer/hohestor.htm

The High Gate (Brama Wyżynna) is a relic of the mighty ramparts that were built along the western city limits from 1571 and demolished at the end of the 19th century. His only adornment is a triumvirate of coats of arms that pays homage to Poland, Royal Prussia and Danzig. Today there is an excellent and competent tourist information for Gdansk and the province of Pomerania in the High Gate.
