Main Town Hall (Ratusz Głównego Miasta) Gdańsk

The Town Hall (Polish: Ratusz Głównego Miasta) is located in Gdańsk in the district of law city. This is the actual city center and older than the Gdańsk Old Town with the Old Town Hall. Located at the end of the Langgasse, the town hall has also a dominant position on the Long Market.

At the end of Langgasse is the Main Town Hall (Ratusz Głównego Miasta), which far overshadows its counterpart in the old town. You can't miss the tower that shoots up high, with a statue of King Zygmunt Augustus enthroned on its top - Gdańsk owes many privileges to him. The building erected in 1327 was rebuilt several times, the last major change took place in 1556, when the strict Gothic forms were replaced by Mannerist ornamentation after a fire. The showpiece of the town hall is the red hall, in which the city council met for ceremonial meetings: a firework display of red and gold colors combined with dark, warming wood tones.
