The Catholic Church of St. Katharina von Gau-Weinheim stands at the highest point on the northern edge of the village area. Today's church is essentially a Romanesque hall building that was redesigned and expanded in Baroque style in 1740. Between 1928 and 1930 the church was fundamentally rebuilt and expanded, giving it its current appearance.
The medieval church was dedicated to Saint Catherine and belonged to the archdeaconry of the provost of the Mainz monastery of St. Maria im Felde (St. Maria in campis).

The townscape of the ancient community of Gau-Weinheim (Alzey-Worms district) at the foot of the Wiesberg is dominated by the high-lying parish church of St. Katharina. It is clearly recognizable as a former fortified church, and a tower of the medieval cemetery fortification is still close to the church. It was built in 1742 on the site of a Romanesque church from the 12th century. Ashlars and two stone masks from around 1180 are still preserved from this building on the outside and the triumphal arch wall inside. In 1929 a new choir and a massive tower were added, which today largely determine the silhouette of the complex. In the vestibule, the new altars, the hero memorial niche, and also in the sacristy, numerous beautiful sculptures from the Baroque and Rococo periods of the 18th century have been preserved. The modern glass windows fit in well with the room atmosphere of this church, which harmoniously combines historical and modern elements.
