The parish church of Relegem, part of Asse, is a late Gothic church with alterations from the 16th-17th century and dedicated to Saint John the Baptist. The oldest core of the building dates from 1535. In 1917 the church was enlarged and restored in neo-Gothic style. The organ in the church has been protected since 1979.

Hiking

Until the beginning of the 20th century it was a late Gothic church whose choir and nave were built in 1537 and the side aisles were added later. The south sacristy dates from 1643 and the built-in west tower from 1580. This church fell into disrepair at the end of the 19th century. From 1911 to 1913, a major restoration and renovation was carried out according to a design by Robert De Pauw. Neo-Gothic elements were also added and a transept and an entrance portal were added. In 1953 a baptistery was added.

There are only few data available regarding the origins of the parish: M. De Doncker suggests the possibility that Emebertus, brother of Saint Gudula van Hamme, who Christianized the area around 720, founded a chapel here, dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, a common patron saint among the oldest foundations. According to J. Verbesselt, the parish of Relegem only originated in the eleventh century and was founded from Wemmel along the old connecting road Zellik-Relegem-Wemmel.
