The Gotegemmolen is located in the Molenbeek valley and is surrounded by grasslands and some small forest plots. South of the mill there are several elongated pools.

      Gotegem mill

Still in operation overshot mill on the Molenbeek with an iron paddle wheel and lock, located on the edge of Mere, near the Blauwbos, often mentioned as belonging to Haaltert. First mentioned in 1387, in 1808 the mill and miller's house were rebuilt, in 1898 a steam engine was installed, in 1900 (or so-called 1890?) a riveted iron overshot wheel was installed. On the stream side, cemented side gable with iron paddle wheel. Rectangular windows with thief irons. Technical installation: cast iron transmission in closed round brick camp pit with bluestone cover, on which cast iron columns to support two pairs of grinding stones (one of which is out of order) on the first floor. Additional motive power is provided by an electric motor, which acts as the main drive for four wheat cylinder mills. Miller's house in the extension of the mill under a wolfed gable roof (ridge parallel to the street, slates), both with renewed facing of decorative facade stone.

The watermill looks a bit neglected, but it will trigger and draw attention to every passer-by.

Let the wheel spin and enjoy the old technology...
