On this part of the way, there are old bunker remains with information boards

The remains of the bunkers are fenced, but you can see them right from the path. The information boards that are located at the various bunkers each deal with a certain aspect of the system and give a little insight.
All in all, you get a piece of the history of this region shown that is otherwise all too easy to overlook.

In 2009, with the WestWallWeg Oberotterbach, the last and longest section of the “WestWallWeg Otterbach section” was opened by Prime Minister Kurt Beck. Two years earlier, the Steinfeld and Niederotterbach sections had been opened to the public.
The Oberotterbach part of the Westwallweg begins in the center of the village and over a length of seven kilometers provides information on 25 information boards about the construction, function and fate of this part of the 600 km long military installation on the border with France. In addition, the visitor receives information on the fortunes of the villages on the Siegfried Line and the fate of the people - civilians and soldiers.
The bunkers on the west wall were all blown up after 1945 and most of them were removed. At Oberotterbach, however, there are still numerous ruins of various types of bunkers and remains of anti-tank ditches. Ring stands (i.e. one-man bunker) and the trench systems from 1944/45. These remains are explained and reconstructions show their former dimensions and their function. The battles for positions in December 1944 and March 1945 are described.
It reports on the danger that the 20,000 laid mines still posed after the war. And it is described that the people of the villages in the Siegfried Line (red zone) had to leave their villages three times between 1939 and 1945 and in 1945 they found almost nothing but ruins. The panels also point out the function of the bunker ruins as habitats for endangered animal species and as a habitat for rare plants and deal with the second route monument in Germany, which has been a listed building since 2007 (next to the Roman Limes).
