The revived weekly market in the heart of Schöppenstedt celebrated a decent, but still expandable start on Friday (September 11th, 2020). In the future, this will take place every Friday and will be gradually expanded.

Spices, eggs and smoked fish from the region

In bright sunshine, the market feeders lured in on the redesigned market square from 8 a.m. with delicacies from the region. Visitors were able to browse, shop or directly enjoy themselves at a total of six sales stands, where, among other things, spices, tea, sweets and herbs, eggs and meat products, fresh smoked fish, clothing, oils, knives and knife sharpeners as well as cheesecake, waffle and coffee specialties were on offer.

Mayor Föniger sees room for improvement

Schöppenstedt's mayor Andrea Föniger, initiator of the revived weekly market in Elmstadt, also took the opportunity to drop by in person. The mayor was satisfied with the first weekly market attempt. After a long break due to the structural redesign and the corona restrictions, Föniger also saw some room for improvement.

“The number of stands is quite good for the start, but there are still a few gaps. Of course, we would like to close these in the future in order to make an even larger offer possible. Unfortunately, an ice cream and clothing stand had to be canceled at short notice. Hopefully both will be included in the next edition. In the coming weeks and months we will try at full speed to animate other dealers so that the market becomes even more attractive," promises the SPD woman.

In the middle of the Schöppenstedter weekly market, there was also a prayer with Pastor Martin Cachej, who was attended by numerous citizens on the chairs placed at a sufficient distance. “The prayer with Pastor Cachej was very well attended and enriched the weekly market. We already know that there will be a repeat in the foreseeable future," says Andrea Föniger.
