Cycling
For at least five centuries this area - like almost all around the city - was farming land, dominated by a handful of farms and estates. The Schnellenburg was one of them and was mentioned in a document as early as 1411. From the beginning of the 17th century at the latest, an important trade route led there, and the part of the estate on the river became a ferry and towing station. Here traders and travelers could cross the Rhine to get on to Neuss and Cologne.
