After its construction beginning in 1898, the section of today's Joseph-Beuys-Ufer was initially called Hofgartenufer. During the Nazi era, when the nearby Oberkassel Bridge was also renamed Skagerrak Bridge, it was called Admiral-Scheer-Ufer. The history of today's Joseph-Beuys-Ufer is closely intertwined with the history of the Rhine promenade.
