It is the first and oldest public garden in Germany: The Düsseldorf Hofgarten, the inner-city green lung of the Rhine metropolis, was laid out in 1769.

It stretches from Jacobistraße with Jägerhof Palace and the adjacent Malkasten site over to Heinrich-Heine-Allee and extends from the northern end of Königsallee to the courtyard on the banks of the Rhine. The park measures almost 28 hectares and marks the transition from the strictly baroque garden style to the natural English landscape garden. A good third of them are meadows where nature lovers can romp. Court garden designer Maximilian Weyhe enjoyed the luxury of having green splendor on the doorstep. He lived in the court gardener's house.

The Hofgarten is the central park in Düsseldorf. It is located in the city center in the Stadtmitte and Pempelfort districts and has a total area of 27.73 hectares, of which 13 hectares are meadow areas. The park area extends from Jacobistraße with Jägerhof Palace and the adjacent Malkasten site to Heinrich-Heine-Allee in the old town and from Königsallee to the courtyard on the banks of the Rhine. Numerous historical monuments and modern sculptures enliven the park, which in terms of design marks the transition from the baroque garden style to the English landscape garden. The oldest part of the public courtyard garden was laid out in 1769. This makes the Düsseldorf Hofgarten Germany's first and oldest public garden.
