Fort St. Andries is located near the lock of the same name and is beautiful to see and read what the fort used to look like. Unfortunately you are no longer allowed to walk around the ruins due to the risk of collapse.

Hiking

During the war, the fortress was used by the Germans as ammunition storage and weapons. When the Allies arrived in '45, the fortress was blown up by the Germans. After the war, the fort was further demolished and the resulting debris used to harden roads.

Hiking

New Fort Sint Andries dates from 1816 and was originally a 5-angled brick fort. The location was militarily strategic on the narrow strip between Maas and Waal. The fort was built to control shipping traffic and to guard the adjacent Sint Andries lock.
