The gypsum tunnel in Neckarzimmern in the Neckar-Odenwald district is a widely ramified tunnel system in which around 170,000 m⊃2; area and more than 40 km of road and rail routes are used by the Bundeswehr. The mine, which was originally used for gypsum mining and dates back to the 18th century, played an important role in the war economy of both world wars.
