On the site of the former Alma colliery and coking plant in Gelsenkirchen-Ückendorf, the foundation stone for the "Motodrom Gelsenkirchen" racetrack was laid at the end of the 1960s - unofficially also "Almaring". Here everyone could compete in different classes with and without a driving license. The only condition was compliance with essential safety regulations such as the function of the brakes and the presence of belts. The winner was rewarded with cash. The operation could be financed mainly through the entrance fees. The race days were always very popular and well attended by both the drivers and the spectators. Because of the increasing protests against the high level of noise pollution for residents from cars and loudspeakers, which regularly recur on weekends, the race track was closed at the end of the 1984 season and has been left to its own devices to this day. The paved route, guardrails or grandstand hill are still there and recognizable. The only difference to historical film and photo recordings is the vegetation, which has worked its way in almost 40 years and has overgrown the area - instead of an empty wasteland, the ring now runs through a forest. Careful exploration reveals a surprising number of relics from the active time, from numbered concrete platforms to exhaust pipes and numerous tires. In some places, colored markings still cover the route. An absolute highlight.

It's exciting that there was a real racetrack here.
