"Once upon a time, the blast furnaces of the Schalke and Bochum clubs were supplied with iron ore via the Erzbahn route.
In 2002, it was one of the first disused railway lines that the Ruhr Regional Association (RVR) converted into cycling and hiking trails. Today, the route is one of the best-known tourist cycle paths in the Ruhr Metropolis.
The overall expansion cost around 20 million euros and includes six new bridges and the repair of nine bridge structures. It took ten years to make it happen."
