On June 2, 2018, Querfurt's newest monument was unveiled to commemorate the 300th birthday of the theologian and polymath Jacob Christian Schäffer. It stands on the church map on the north side of the town church, a few steps from Schäffergasse and his birthplace. The Antiquities and Tourist Association commissioned the monument, which was financed entirely through donations. The bronze bust was provided by metal designer Jochen Müller from Quedlinburg. The model was a painting from Regensburg depicting Schäffer wearing a necklace with symbols of his versatility: theology, inventiveness, zoology, mycology, and botany.
