According to tradition, Saint Pancratius, to whom this church in Lodersleben is dedicated, was publicly executed at the end of the 3rd / beginning of the 4th century under Emperor Diocletian because of his Christian faith. The body of the martyr was buried on the Roman Via Aurelia - in the catacombs later named after him - under today's church "San Pancrazio".
The memorial day of Saint Pancratius is on May 12, he is one of the three so-called "Ice Saints" in popular piety, together with Servatius and Bonifatius (in some areas the "Cold Sophie" is added a day later).
