I have no idea how such a beautiful building can be left to decay and vandalism.

The former district estates building in Querfurt is a typical 19th-century administrative building. It was built in 1876 as a wing complex with a tower, and expanded in 1913 with slightly modified forms. After the Second World War, this prestigious building served as the seat of the "District Council" and administered the Querfurt district, which had been significantly reduced in size as a result of the East German territorial reform. In 1994, it merged with the Merseburg district to form the Merseburg-Querfurt district. The administrative seat moved to Merseburg. On July 1, 2007, this district was merged with the Saalkreis to form the new Saalekreis as part of the district reform in Saxony-Anhalt. Merseburg remained the administrative seat.

The former district estate building, later the seat of the Querfurt District Council and, after reunification, the seat of the district administration until 1994, is a listed building. It is privately owned, but the owner's company went bankrupt in 2007. The company, a surveying and planning office from the district, also owned the former district court in the immediate vicinity. Both of these once beautiful, highly prestigious buildings are falling into disrepair. They are typical lost places.
