The bread market is one of the oldest settlements within the Füssen city center. The name Brotmarkt has to be taken literally, since many bakers, in the absence of their own shop, offered their goods on the market. The bread market is still one of the most beautiful places in Füssen today.

Here at the bread market, the Füssener bakers offered their goods in the Middle Ages. The square developed from a Carolingian royal court and some houses still have beautiful late Gothic gables. The lute maker fountain is a reminder of Füssen's time as the cradle of European lute and violin making. The figure on the lute maker fountain represents Kaspar Tieffenbrucker, one of the most successful lute makers of the known dynasty
