The Rondellplatz is part of the Via Triumphalis, which leads from the south via the Ettlinger Tor Square, the Rondellplatz, the market square and the Schlossplatz to the main axis of the Karlsruhe Palace. In the middle of the square is the Grand Duke Karl Monument, often called the Constitutional Column. It consists of an obelisk connected to a fountain. The square also features the Margravial Palace, an entrance to the Ettlinger Tor shopping center and the State Trade Office.

On the Rondellplatz stands one of the obelisks in the region, called the Grand Duke Karl Monument with fountain and constitutional column.

The Margravial Palace (built in 1803 on behalf of the Grand Duke for relatives), later the listed Chamber Theater, was demolished except for the facade to make way for a shopping center. But the square is still beautiful to look at, with the obelisk lined with two Baden griffins.
The monument is dedicated to Grand Duke Karl, who once signed the Baden Constitution, one of the most liberal of its time.
