The Karlsruhe Palace was built from 1715 in the style of the Baroque as the residence of Margrave Karl Wilhelm of Baden-Durlach. It served until 1918 as a residence castle of the Margraves or Grand Dukes of Baden. Today, the building houses the Baden State Museum and part of the Federal Constitutional Court.

The Baden flag on the Karlsruhe Palace is part of the cityscape for many people. However, there was a ban in the recent past and it was replaced by the national flag. Many politicians of Karlsruhe took a stand on the ban on the flag and publicly voiced their lack of understanding. Some even called for a revolution. Finally, there was an agreement in Baden-Swabian flag-dispute and the Baden flag was allowed to be hoisted again. When the red flag is raised, it's a reminder of the November Revolution of over a hundred years ago, when the Red Flag was hoisted at the castle.

The legend of the Karlsruhe Palace:
Margrave Karl Wilhelm wanted to enlarge his castle in the capital Durlach. Citizens did not want to sell their plots of land needed for enlargement. One day Margrave Ludwig Wilhelm went hunting in Hardtwald. He got lost in the forest and eventually got tired
under a tree, where he fell asleep exhausted and began to dream. In the dream he saw the plan of a new residential city with a fan-shaped road system. When he awoke, he said to himself: "I have not rested so well in my whole life! Here I want to build my new residence, which Karls-
Rest is called! "Soon after, at this point, the new
Residenzschloss and the city of Karlsruhe.

Very nice castle with a park in front and behind. You have to be a little lucky that there is no scaffolding anywhere.

The castle alone is _naturlich_ already worth a visit. I think, due to the environment, the picturesque park behind it and the lush plaza in front of the castle make it even more beautiful.

The Schlosslichtspiele are unfortunately only in the summer holidays. But definitely worth it to visit. Every evening, the castle is illuminated under a different theme.

The Karlsruhe Palace is the center of the Karlsruhe fan. The location here by the tower is the center of the rays. Good bike paths in particular to the north. But always keep the fan in mind when orienting yourself :-)Incidentally, the castle was built between 1715 and 1718 on behalf of Margrave Karl Wilhelm von Baden-Durlach. More here: ka.stadtwiki.net/Karlsruher_SchlossIn front of the castle the city and behind it the park (which can be used) with the following forest and the state majolica ceramic manufactory with sales majolika-karlsruhe.de and "Cantina" cantinamajolika.de

The extensive park behind the castle is ideal for a break on the tour. In summer you can cycle VION through the forest to Borden and thus escape the heat of the city.

Incidentally, the Karlsruhe Palace not only delights the inhabitants of the fan city.
The tower of the Maryland State House in Annapolis, looks so similar to the tower of the Karlsruhe Palace that it is speculated that this is a replica.
