The Eldena log windmill welcomes travelers from Greifswald from afar. In 1998 the new building of one of the oldest windmills on the Baltic coast was inaugurated. It has only recently been given new wings and sails and is now shining with a red cloth. The wheels inside, which turn, driven solely by the wind, are impressive.
In the future there will also be regular guided tours.
A visit is always worthwhile and if you meet the miller while visiting, you can be lucky and listen to exciting stories about this beautiful mill and maybe even take a look inside.

Even from a distance, the large sails of the Eldena post mill attract attention. Its predecessor was listed in the inventory of the Hilda/Eldena monastery as early as 1533. Grain was milled on the Mühlenberg in Eldena until 1932. After that, the landmark of this Greifswald district fell into disrepair and finally collapsed in 1972.

The Eldena Mill Association rebuilt the mill on its own initiative.

Since 1997, a traditional mill festival has been celebrated annually on Whit Monday to mark German Mill Day. When the wind is right, the canvas-covered sails turn as they did in the old days.

Only five such post mills remain in Western Pomerania.

This type, in which the entire mill house is turned to face the wind, was first used in Europe in the 12th century.
From May to the end of September, the Eldena Post Mill is open to visitors on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Reservations for visits are also possible at any time.

The Eldena post mill is one of the oldest windmills along the Baltic coast and was first mentioned in documents in 1533. After centuries of use, commercial use was discontinued in 1933.
