Wieck wooden drawbridgeThe Ryck flows between the districts of Wieck and Eldena near Greifswald. Both districts are connected by the Wiecker Bridge. The Wieck drawbridge was built in 1887 based on the Dutch model and was carried out by the designer and wooden shipbuilder August Spruth. This wooden drawbridge replaced the ferry service that had previously connected Wieck and Eldena. A few pedestrians, animals and horse-drawn carriages have crossed the bridge. Bridges of this type were very common in this region in earlier centuries. As a technical monument that has become rare, the Wiecker Bridge is under monument protection. The bridge, which was reconstructed true to the original in 1993/94, has become a symbol of the old fishing village of Wieck and the city of Greifswald.
