After climbing 262 steps you have a wonderful view of the surroundings of Greifswald and even as far as Rügen.

The view from the cathedral is really beautiful. However, the increase is not without its consequences. Sometimes very steep and narrow. So having a Frankfurt wreath in your stomach will be difficult. Inside you can also admire the great bells. 4 euros per adult.

The Greifswald Cathedral has been a cultural monument of national importance since 2008. In 2013 it was voted "Church of the Year 2013" by the Foundation for the Preservation of Church Monuments in Germany. St. Nikolai was first mentioned in 1280. The church is named after Saint Nicholas of Myra (around 285 - around 350), who was considered the patron saint of seafarers and merchants in the Middle Ages. In 1456, the year the university was founded, the cathedral was dedicated. Academic honors and matriculations take place here to this day. St. Nikolai is the baptistery of the painter Caspar David Friedrich (1774 - 1840). The interior of the church is furnished in the neo-Gothic style. Since 2012, the library of the Spiritual Ministry with medieval manuscripts, incunabula and books has been open to the public. The 98 meter high, baroque-helmeted tower can be climbed. On high holidays, a moving carillon of the seven bells sounds.
The Greifswald Cathedral is part of the European Route of Brick Gothic, the Schwedenstraße and the Caspar-David-Friedrich-Bildweg.
