Not much remains of Burg Neidenstein today – but its history is astonishingly eventful. The castle was probably built in the late 15th century by the lords of Aufseß and first mentioned in documents in 1488. Destruction came in 1525: during the Peasants' War, the castle was burned down. It was rebuilt with compensation from the Prince-Bishopric of Bamberg before being devastated again during the Thirty Years' War. Today, only remnants of the surrounding walls and an approximately ten-meter-high part of the former residential building remain on private land. The ruin can be seen through a garden gate.
