This saint, also known as Joannes Nepomuk, often stands on bridges, as a patron saint for everyone who has anything to do with water. This Prague priest was horribly tortured in the 14th century and finally thrown half-dead in the Vltava. When he drowned, his body suddenly surfaced surrounded by five shining stars. He was very popular as a minister and was finally buried in Prague Cathedral. He was later canonized. The statue on this square dates from the late 18th century.
