    Hiking

Halfway the Kerkstraat you see a house from 1888 with a separate roof on the left. On the facade hangs a picture that Priester Daens was born here. If you know that Priest Daens was born in 1839 then you understand that something is not right. Daens was born here but in a tower house that was later demolished.

A tourist attraction to arouse interest that Adolf Daens was born here.
However, some explanation: In the 19th century there was an old-fashioned terraced house.
There Adolf Daens saw the light of day on December 18, 1839. Father Daens was a shale roofer and mother Anna Boon a hat maker, who ran her shop here.

If you look closely at the facade plate, you will notice the misconception: the plate refers to the birth of Adolf in 1839 in a house that was only built in 1888.

So it is not the birthplace, but the birthplace of priest Daens.

Halfway down Kerkstraat stands a house from 1888 with a striking roof and a plaque commemorating Father Daens. Although he was born here in 1839, a small tower house originally stood on this site, which was later demolished. The house commemorates the famous Aalst native and his role in the city's social history.
