The "High Tower" takes its name from the highest point of the northern course of the former city fortifications. In its rectangular shape, it was originally equipped with battlements.
This point, where the slope of the St. Georgenberg comes close to the former moat from the north, was, like the area around the Johannisturm, at high risk of attacks and was therefore particularly protected. In addition to the high tower, five half-towers - two oriented east and three west - jutted out of the wall, and the church with its defiant tower, which was close to the city wall in this area, could also be used for watchful observation in an emergency. The half towers - if they still exist at all - have been included in the residential development over the course of time and are only vaguely recognizable today. In some places in this area the old city wall is still there. From the point of view of monument preservation, it is important to preserve these as protected facilities. The High Tower has recently been stylishly restored and closed at the top by a four-sided roof. It is now also used for residential purposes.
