Today's Michaelskapelle was built at the beginning of the 20th century (1912/13). It is about 40 meters above the western outskirts of Vlatten on the Lützenberg.

From the bench in front of the chapel you have a beautiful view of the village and the surrounding landscape of the Eifel.

The small Michael’s Chapel can be seen from afar, 40 meters high on the Lützenberg at the west exit of Vlatten. The Vlatten Chapel is first mentioned in the Weistum (written customary law) of the Wehrmeisterei from the 13th century. It is assumed that there is a connection with the Siegburg abbey church, which was also built in honor of St. Michael. The Benedictine abbey there owned an estate in Vlatten as early as 1065. As the first chapel fell into disrepair over the centuries, the dilapidated tower had to be removed in 1860.

In 1912 and 1913 the ship and tower were rebuilt, albeit much smaller. The municipality of Vlatten attributes it to the special protection of St. Michael that the chapel was not destroyed in the hail of bombs. A procession is held every year as thanks.

This church in Vlatten is dedicated to the Archangel Michael, the name (coming from Hebrew) means "Who is like God?". He is often depicted - on paintings or as a statue - with a flaming sword or lance. Michael is - together with Raphael, Gabriel and Uriel - one of the four archangels who (according to human imagination) occupy the highest rank in the heavenly hierarchy of angelic beings. Their common feast day is September 29th.
