In the middle of the 12th century, a moated castle was founded between three older villages on the Gersprenz by Staufer ministerials and the Lords of Hagen- Münzenberg. At the same time, a city complex was built to the east of Dieburg Castle.
Today, a corner tower of the Zwinger ("Schlossturm") and the remains of the Zwinger walls and the "Albini Castle" have been preserved from the Albininoch. Baron Franz Joseph von Albini, to whom the Hessian Landgrave Ludwig X gave the castle in 1802 for his many services, had almost all buildings and remains of the ramparts demolished in 1809 and a rectangular castle complex, the Albini Castle, erected in the southern area.
