This unique complex of three monasteries (the Minorite Monastery, the Poor Clares Monastery and the Bekyn Monastery) was founded in 1350 by Kateřina of Rosenberg. The first Minorite monks arrived in 1357, and the first nuns in the monastery of St. Clare in 1361. The third monastery in the immediate vicinity was inhabited by a community of pious lay sisters (Bekyní) from 1375 onwards. In the late Gothic period between 1490 and 1500, structural changes were made to the monastery, as can be seen in the preserved roof trusses from this period. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the monastery was structurally remodeled in the Baroque style. These changes gave the monastery its current form. The Poor Clares Monastery was dissolved in 1782 by Emperor Joseph II, and the Minorite Monastery in 1950 by the communists. The buildings were then used as a military school, civil servants' quarters, a warehouse and social housing, among other things. In 2014, the comprehensive reconstruction of the entire complex began. Today, the complex is managed by the Knights of the Red Star.

The monastery church is dedicated to the feast of Corpus Christi and the Sorrowful Virgin Mary. The Rosenbergs wanted to openly compete with Prague by building it, where the Imperial Regalia and Imperial Relics were displayed in the Corpus Christi Chapel. The famous processions with relics ended in Český Krumlov in 1417, when the young Ulrich II of Rosenberg briefly went over to the Hussite side.
