The Dilsberg Commandant's House is the last remaining building of the former castle complex and dates back to the 16th century. It originally served as the garrison commander's residence; later, it served as a town hall, a school, and even a prison.

The building, a remnant from the garrison era, served as the commandant's apartment in the 17th century; later it had various functions: the town hall, school and prison were housed here. Because of the private residential use, the building has been preserved to this day.
Over time, the building fabric got worse and worse. Since the city of Neckargmünd could no longer pay for the maintenance, the district of Rhein-Neckar acquired the building in 1996 and renovated it. Since then, the Kommandantenhaus has been a center for the promotion of art and culture: exhibitions, chamber music concerts, open-air concerts, readings, symposia and discussion groups enrich cultural life. Scholarship holders from the fields of art, music and literature find a place of work here.
