A bathhouse measuring 13 x 6 meters was probably located directly on the banks of the Wurm in Roman times. The water could be heated using a sophisticated system.

The Roman bath building in Übach-Palenberg was discovered in 1988 during the development of the local recreation area. The ground monument was part of a Roman manor (villa rustica). The ruins reveal the original character of the bathrooms and the entire structure.

The 13 x 6 meter bathhouse was probably located directly on the banks of the Wurm in Roman times. From the entrance in the north you first got into the dressing room, then into an oval, unheated bath room with cold water basin and finally into a heated bath room, which was followed by a separately heated sweat room. This means that all temperature levels that are usual for classic Roman bathing are represented. Some finds from the building show that the facility was used in the 2nd and probably also in the 3rd century AD.

The west side of the building had particularly strong foundations - an indication that the water from the worm could reach the front of the building in Roman times and wash it under during floods. The Roman engineers built the front so well that it has been around for almost 2000 years. Incidentally, the ancient wall remains are separated from the modern masonry by a deepened joint.
The conservation work of the ruins was carried out under the direction of the LVR Office for Ground Monument Preservation in the Rhineland and on behalf of the city of Übach-Palenberg.
