Nievelstein Sandstone, also known as Nivelstein Sandstone or Herzogenrath Sandstone, is a Pliocene quartzitic sandstone that has been used as a natural stone, particularly in the Rhine-Meuse region, since Roman times. The sandstone was quarried in a sand pit near Herzogenrath, directly on the German-Dutch border.
