    This peace sign was founded in 1969 by young people from the Heinsberg district and the Netherlands to unite peoples. It was initiated by the then pastor of the Protestant parish of Marienberg, Hermann Poll. Pastor Poll was a French prisoner of war from 1944 to 1947. Later he committed himself to a new peaceful time between peoples. In the beginning, the memorial only had 2 columns, in German and Dutch, but over the years the number of columns has been expanded to include other languages. The Chinese memorial column was installed on 31/10/2019 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary.
