Old synagogue
The Jewish community of Erfurt becomes tangible to us from the late 11th century, as the first recorded construction of the old synagogue dates back to this time. Until the 14th century, the Jewish church was rebuilt several times and adapted to the needs of the growing community. The history of construction and use of the synagogue also reflects the history of the Jewish community.
A tall, representative gable building was built around 1270, which still characterizes the appearance of the synagogue today.
