The statue shows the Reformer with the open Bible in his left hand. However, the right does not point to a specific scripture, but only accesses the book. The facial expression is less teaching and self-confessed than discovering and wondering - as he may have read and learned in Erfurt. The pedestal shows three stations from the life of the Reformer: Luther as a student, Luther's entrance to the monastery, and the festive reception at the university on April 6, 1521. The obverse shows the Bible verse, "I will not die, but live and proclaim the Lord's work "(Wikipedia).
