In the middle of the rustic Meroder Forest, directly on the Way of St. James, are the poor remains of the former Schwarzenbroich monastery. After the invasion of French troops at the end of the 18th century, the monastery was abandoned and auctioned off a short time later. In 1835 the former monastery was so badly damaged in a fire that it was not rebuilt. Today you can browse through the remaining remains and fragments of the wall here.
