The Laufenburg is a beautifully preserved and well maintained knight's castle from the 12th century. Amazingly, over the centuries, it changed hands only through inheritance or through purchases, but not through military conflicts. The castle was not damaged until the 20th century, but was partially destroyed during World War II.

After the war, it was again lovingly repaired and today you can take a rest on your hikes in the idyllic castle in a home-style restaurant.

The restaurant is closed in January and on Mondays.

A great value for money is offered here.
A soup in advance, venison goulash with noodles and savoy cabbage and finally a chocolate cream for 14.50 €.

Good home cooking with a very good price performance ratio. No chips for food like nuts 50 years ago.

A way worthwhile. The view of the beautifully renovated castle rewards for the few meters. Too bad it is only that you can only visit the rooms of the restaurant, the rest is unfortunately not to visit. By the way, Mondays (except public holidays) are closed. Price - performance ratio very good.

The Laufenburg offers an ideal intermediate destination for a rest. A café offers the opportunity to stop.

There is an excursion restaurant there, but I haven't tried it yet (Corona). The northern hiking trail from Wehebachtal to Laufenburg is much more beautiful and romantic than the southern one, which contains the driveway.

"... The Laufenburg is located in the private forest of the Prym family between Heistern and Merode in the Hürtgenwald. The Höhenburg, which was built before 1100, is now a semi-ruin. It is not only an attraction for hikers and walkers due to its beautiful location on one small hill, which is flowed by the Sührbach, but also offers gastronomy and is managed as a manor.
In the early 12th century, the Laufenburg was built by the Duchy of Limburg as a knight's castle. The Laufenburg measures 38 x 24m and is made of stone. It has three round corner towers and a shell tower. In the middle of the 14th century, the castle lost its protective function and thus its importance. It has been in ruins since the 17th century. However, the pinnacles of the keep are still visible from afar. Some renovations and restorations date back to the late 19th century ... "
