The former prison was demolished in 1957/58 with the exception of a few prison walls and seven civil servants' houses in the northern area of today's park. This was intended to create space for an expressway, the so-called “Westtangente”.

Part of the cemetery where prisoners were buried was decommissioned and used as an allotment. Only the civil servants' cemetery has been preserved to this day. The prison officials were buried here separately from the prisoners.

In the years that followed, the site was used temporarily as a storage area, a scrap yard and by car repair shops. From 1970 to 1973, an apartment block was built in the area of the former main entrance to the prison, and from 1973 to 1974 a parking garage was built. Four of the seven civil servants' homes were demolished for this purpose. The remaining area should initially give way to a motorway. Later plans envisaged a block-like development and finally a residential development with a green area. In 1983, citizen protests meant that the plans for the construction of the western bypass were no longer pursued.

Seven years later, another development plan was drawn up. The historical significance of the site was now recognized and planning for today's history park began. Two years later, the Berlin Senate placed the remaining parts of the five-meter-high prison wall, the civil servants' cemetery and three of the civil servants' homes under monument protection.

However, due to reunification, these plans also became obsolete: the plan was now to run the Tiergarten tunnel across the site. However, after intensive discussions, these plans were changed so that the tunnel ends east of the site. Work began in 2003 and was successfully completed with the opening in 2006.

The history park is particularly dedicated to the memory of Albrecht Haushofer (professor of political geography, scientist, author of dramas and poems, resistance fighter against the Nazi regime) who was imprisoned here and a few 100 meters away, on the ULAP site (Universal-Landes - Exhibition Park), was shot from behind by the SS.

On the prison wall there is a verse from his Moabite sonnets and in the stylized prison cell, after entering, some verses from the Moabite sonnets are recited as audio.

The prison was built in 1844 and was an important part of German history as it was used as a prison for political prisoners during the Nazi era.

The history park was built as a memorial to the victims of political persecution and oppression in the 20th century. The park shows the history of the prison, which was a place of terror and oppression during the Nazi era. Political prisoners who were against the ideology of National Socialism were held captive. Many of these prisoners were tortured or even killed.

Today, the Moabit Cell Prison History Park is an important place for the memory of the crimes of National Socialism and an important part of German history. The park offers a unique experience for visitors who want to confront Germany's dark past.

The park's atmosphere is shaped by its meaning and history. The remains of the prison can still be seen and the atmosphere is thoughtful and respectful. The park provides a memorial to the victims of oppression and violence, but also an opportunity to reflect on the human strength and courage of those who fought against tyranny.
