The Market Church of Our Lady, also known as St. Mary's Church, is the city's landmark with its red tower. In 1529, Cardinal Albrecht combined two medieval churches, the Gertruden Church with its blue towers and St. Mary's Church, to form today's Market Church. With its three-aisled hall structure, it is one of the most important late Gothic churches in Central Germany. The church contains the baptismal font where George Frideric Handel was baptized. Luther's death mask can be viewed, as can the Hausmann towers.

The 83m high blue towers date back to the 16th century. The name came from a resident named Hausmann, who oversaw the city and warned of fire. The tower can be visited by appointment.
