The road "On the Sea" is located in a hollow between Marienplatz and St. Michael's Church. During excavations, the first building was found at a depth of 8 m, above that a 4 m thick layer of peat. In 1229, this area was described as a marshy terrain with a duck pond. Today's Marienplatz stood out like a mountain.

The Ohlingerstrasse runs right through the artisans' quarter. It's divided into Upper and Lower Ohlingerstrasse. The division occurs at the corner of "Auf der Altstadt" (On the Old Town). This section lies between "Auf dem Meere" (On the Sea) and "Auf der Altstadt." It's a prime example of everything the residents have done to save this neighborhood from demolition. We're also right in the middle of a subsidence area here. The city is now contributing to its preservation, but that wasn't always the case.
