The Sauerbrunnen is one of the Schwalheimer springs and a new version from 1927 has been preserved. In 1779 the Sauerbrunnen was transferred to the Landgrave of Hessen-Kassel, who also had the late baroque fountain keeper's house built. Coins found in the fountain show that the Romans already appreciated the water from this spring. This oasis of calm is nestled in the green park in the Schwalheim district of Bad Nauheim. The water of the sourling is sulphurous and at times very carbonated.

The Sauerbrunnen is (like the neighboring Löwenquelle) a calcium-containing sodium-chloride-bicarbonate acidulous water. It has a constant swelling temperature of 12.1°C. The medicinal water is recommended for gastric and intestinal disorders. It should not be drunk permanently, but only during a corresponding cure.
