In 1767 the Mooswieserhof stood on the site of the knight's stone, cared for by the Palatinate Forest Association PWV. It was named after moss meadows and the moss fountain. Later the farm was also used as a forest house, but bought, abandoned and demolished in 1833 by the Bavarian state.

This is one of over 300 knight's stones of the Palatinate Forest Association.

For Ritterstein fans: The "PWV abbreviation" is located at the top of the right broad side of this Ritterstein (and is often overgrown with moss).

The forest area in which the Ritterstein is located was once owned by the Barons von Hacke and from 1804 by the von Gienanth family. The Mooswieserhof was once located on the site of the knight's stone. At times this served as a forest house. In 1833 the state finally bought the farm and tore it down. The farm was named after the Moosbrunnen, not far south of the Ritterstein, from which a small brook flows into the Mölschbach. The Mooswiesen got its name after the Moosbrunnen and after that the Mooswieserhof and the Mooswiesertal were named.
