The Humbergturm is a lookout tower on the 427.9 m above sea level. NHN[1] high Großer Humberg in the south of the city of Kaiserslautern. It stands about 250 m west-southwest of the summit on an open space at an altitude of about 424 m. In 1896, the idea of building a tower on the Humberg, which at that time was already a popular vantage point for the citizens of Kaiserslautern, was taken up. For this purpose, citizens of the city of Kaiserslautern founded the Humberg Association with the aim of financing and building an observation tower. The founding members included the sewing machine manufacturer Georg Pfaff, Mayor Theodor Orth, the commercial councilors Pfeiffer and Karcher and the malt manufacturer Gelbert.
The tower was built according to the plans of the architect Ludwig von Stempel, who had already made a name for himself with some of the city's public buildings. Construction began in the spring of 1899. The building material was quarried on site from the rocky Humberg plateau. The tower collapsed the year construction began. The tower was inaugurated on September 2, 1900.
When you have reached the lookout tower, you can have a nice picnic up here with a good view.
